What a video news release is

A video news release, or VNR, is a news-style video built for TV. It's not an ad. It's an interview, some strong B-roll and natural sound, cut into a package a newsroom can drop straight into a bulletin.

Get it right and a newsroom chooses to run it as a real story. That's earned coverage, not paid airtime. We build the package so your announcement is easy for a producer to say yes to.

Earned coverage, not paid airtime

This is the part most sellers blur. A VNR is not a media buy. No one can promise your story onto the news, and anyone who does is guessing. What we can do is make it genuinely newsworthy and broadcast-ready, so a producer wants to run it.

Here's our honest scope. We produce the package and media-train your spokesperson. Your PR team or agency pitches it to the networks. That split keeps everyone doing what they're best at.

Why newsroom DNA matters

A VNR only works if it looks and cuts like real news. Our crew came up through live broadcast news at Network Ten, so the framing, pacing and grabs match what a bulletin actually uses. That's what gets it run.

It's experience-led, not reliant on one person. Oscar leads on the camera and the news eye, and the same standard holds across every job. For the wider corporate side, see our corporate video production.

Built-in media training

Most sellers do one or the other. Production companies point the camera. Training firms coach the exec but never film. We do both in the one booking. Want training on its own? See our media training in Sydney page.

Your spokesperson is coached before and during the shoot, so they land the message calm and clear. Nervous or non-media talent is where this earns its keep. It's the same care we bring to executive video.

Behind the scenes

We make the hard part look easy.

Production only, PR agency only, or Zarco Creative

There's a real gap between a production-only crew and a PR agency. We sit in the middle: news-grade production with media training built in.

Good to know

Questions, answered.

What is a video news release and how is it different from a corporate video?

A video news release is built to look and cut like a real news story, not an ad. It leads with interview grabs, B-roll and natural sound, edited to broadcast length. A corporate video sells your brand. A VNR is made so a newsroom will choose to run it.

Do you distribute the VNR to TV networks, or do we pitch it ourselves?

We produce the package and media-train your spokesperson. Your PR team or agency pitches it to the networks. That split keeps everyone doing what they're best at, and it's the honest scope so there are no surprises.

Can you guarantee our story gets on the news?

No, and no one honestly can. A VNR is earned coverage, so a newsroom decides whether to run it. What we can do is build it broadcast-ready and genuinely newsworthy, so a producer wants to say yes.

What's included in a VNR pack?

You get the edited news package, the spokesperson interviews with grabs marked up, a separate B-roll reel, press stills, a suggested script and press release draft, and the file in broadcast spec. It's ready for a newsroom to use with no extra work.

How quickly can you turn a VNR around after the shoot?

News moves fast, so we do too. For time-sensitive announcements we can turn a package around quickly, sometimes same day when it's planned in. Tell us the deadline up front and we'll build the schedule to hit it.

What does a video news release cost in Sydney?

It depends on the scope: the number of interviews, locations, whether media training is included, and how fast you need it. We quote per job, not off a menu. Book a call and we'll scope it and send a fixed quote.
